Our Voice Is Echo!

In her Berlin solo exhibition, Our Voice Is Echo!, Iranian sound artist Sarvenaz Mostofey presented a compelling exploration of memory, voice, and defiance through sound. The exhibition centered on the story of Ziba Shirvan, an Afro-Iranian musician who led an all-female ensemble under oppressive conditions, and examined how music and resonance capture both personal and cultural resilience.

Through field recordings and electronic compositions, Mostofey reimagined the powerful acoustics of Sicily’s Ear of Dionysius to honor Shirvan’s legacy and expand on its themes.

By blending historical context with innovative soundscapes, the exhibition emphasized the transformative power of music as a form of resistance and identity. This interdisciplinary project testifies to the power of sound to transcend borders, histories, and identities, inviting audiences to engage with the echoes of marginalized voices across landscapes and through time.

The exhibition was supported by the “Weltoffenes Berlin” Fellowship Program from Berlin’s Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion and was produced in collaboration with Mathias Güntner Galerie and Korsi Berlin e.V. – former Centrala Berlin
