Karolina Grzywnowicz

Fellowship 2023

Karolina Grzywnowicz is a visual artist, using an interdisciplinary approach. Her recent works deal with plants in social and political context, often of violent nature. Her practice is research-based, making use of archival materials, interviews, oral history and bibliographic records.

She looks for parallels between historical events and contemporary social and political discourses driven by urgent issues of violence, exile and migration. She works in various media: sculpture, site specific public installations, audio installations, art interventions and participatory projects.

In 2023 Karolina Grzywnowicz had a Fellowship from Centrala Berlin e.V. which was financed by the Programm of Weltoffenes Berlin from The Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion – Department of Culture, Berlin.

After graduating from Jagiellonian University at the Faculty of Comparative Literature in Kraków/Poland from 2003 to 2008 she received a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in Poland and the European Cultural Foundation. Her works were exhibited among others in the Zachęta National Gallery of Art (Warsaw/Poland), Onomatopee Projects (Eindhoven/Netherlands), the Office for Cultural Translations (Leipzig/Germany), the WRO Art Center (Wroclaw/Poland), and in the BWA Gallery of Contemporary Art (Katowice/Poland).
